Vancouver-based Taiwanese artist John Lin’s “Emit Flow” exhibition was on display at the Taiwanese Canadian Art Gallery recently and acclaimed by local art aficionados. The Taiwanese Cultural Festival is proud to announce that Lin will be painting on camera at the festival for all to accompany him on a spiritual journey manifested through artistic creativity.

Lin’s artistic style bears some resemblance to Abstract Expressionism. His brushwork is not as rebellious or anarchic, but it is undoubtedly spontaneous. He never preconceives a vision for his creations. Rather, he allows colours to flow and mingle freely on the canvas until they concoct a life larger than that of their own. His artworks invite varied interpretations and wild imaginations. Artistic creation, to him, is about expressing life.

“When inspiration strikes, I would lose myself in a creative flow so powerful that it wipes away all concepts of time, hunger or my full-time job. Painting gives me unparalleled joy. Every single one of my art pieces comes from the depths of my heart and soul.”

Before immigrating to Canada in 1990, Lin was in the wood frame manufacturing and sales trade in Changhua, Taiwan. After settling in Vancouver, the Lin couple established their own framing business, supplying framing materials to art galleries. With more than five decades of experience in the framing industry, Lin had been exposed to countless valuable artworks, all of which inspired his later artistic pursuits.

All 16 new paintings on display in the “Emit Flow” exhibition were created during the pandemic. Lin will sell 10 of them and donate all proceeds to the Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Society.
