Founded in 1990 by a group of music-loving Taiwanese Canadians, the Vancouver Formosan Singers takes its name from “Ilha Formosa” (Beautiful Island), the name Portuguese sailors gave Taiwan in 1544, captivated by its beauty.


The choir blends cultural heritage with innovation, embracing new musical elements while honoring Taiwanese traditions. They hold annual concerts and often collaborate with other groups, including international performers.

Nathania Ko is a Harpist, Konghou player, and composer based in Vancouver, Canada. She obtained her Master’s degree from the University of British Columbia, studying the Harp with Elizabeth Volpé Bligh, and a Bachelor’s degree from Shenyang Conservatory of Music in China, where she studied the Konghou with Hong He.
