Vancouver Formosan Singers was founded in 1990 by a group of music loving Taiwanese-Canadians; the name dates back to 1544 when some Portuguese sailors sailed by Taiwan, awed by the beauty of the island, they called out "Ilha Formosa (beautiful island)"!
The Choir tries to integrate into the mainstream society by embracing new elements while preserving their own traditions.
It holds annual concerts, sometimes inviting groups even from overseas to join in. An honor worth mentioning is the Choir placed second in the President's Cup Mix- Voice Chorus Competition in Taiwan in 2017.
