Miao Hsuan Dance Group, founded in 2001 in Taichung, Taiwan, has long been dedicated to dance education and arts promotion. By integrating community and school resources, the group has nurtured many young dancers and become one of the region’s representative performing arts companies.

The troupe has received the Taichung City Golden Arts Award and has been repeatedly selected as an Outstanding Performing Arts Group of Taichung, demonstrating its consistent and mature creative strength.

At the 2026 Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Festival, Miao Hsuan Dance Group draws inspiration from Taiwanese folk beliefs, transforming traditional ritual and parade culture into a contemporary dance language. Infused with festive atmosphere and cultural symbolism, the performance expresses themes of protection and blessing.

Performed by a dynamic and expressive group of young dancers, the work balances rhythmic intensity with emotional depth, presenting a distinctive style that bridges tradition and innovation. Through vibrant movement and refined choreography, audiences are invited to experience the unique charm of Po Jie formations and Tiger Lord culture.

Jin Yu Yuan Puppet Theatre, from Taichung, Taiwan, is led by troupe director Zhao Jin-Tong. The troupe has long been dedicated to the art of traditional glove puppetry, striving to both preserve its heritage and innovate its contemporary expression.

The troupe adopts an interactive performance format, allowing audiences not only to watch but also to actively participate. This approach has successfully attracted children, parents, and younger audiences, encouraging them to rediscover the beauty of traditional art.

In terms of stage presentation, the troupe breaks away from the conventional framework of glove puppetry by incorporating rotating stages, 3D black light theatre, elements of shadow puppetry, and projection mapping technologies, developing a distinctive cross-disciplinary puppetry style.

Over the years, the troupe has performed internationally in countries including Japan, Vietnam, Canada, Bulgaria, and China, continuously bringing Taiwanese glove puppetry to the global stage.

Founded by veteran troupe leader Wu Guang-Hong, Shinyifang Taiwanese Opera Troupe is based in Taichung, Taiwan. The company is dedicated to the creation and production of refined Taiwanese opera. Its performances are rich and diverse, often integrating traditional repertoire, supernatural tales, and local folk culture—such as guardian deity processions—forming a distinctive artistic style unique to the troupe.

Committed to the traditional performance style of Taiwanese opera, the troupe actively engages in cultural preservation and intergenerational transmission, presenting the authentic beauty of local art. Guided by the mission of education and heritage, they use Taiwanese opera as a platform to adapt local folk stories into works that are educational, entertaining, literary, and artistic. Through innovative productions, cross-disciplinary collaborations, and international exchanges, the troupe continues to bring traditional art into contemporary life.

The troupe places strong emphasis on cultivating well-rounded members, from performers and musicians to stage designers and technical production teams.

 What is Story Lamp?

Story Lamp is a hands-on makerspace activity that brings families together through light, craft, and storytelling.

By creating glowing artworks inspired by family stories, participants build empathy and explore their cultural identity. Along the way, they also learn simple electronics and creative design in a fun and engaging way.

Everyone is welcome! No matter your age or background, anyone can create a Story Lamp. From Taiwan to Thailand, Japan, and the United States—and now in Vancouver, Canada—the Story Lamp Project continues to connect people through light.
